Track Closed

Track Closed

Last Thursday, while traveling back to the Bay Area, I finally took a shot I’ve been looking for a while. Ever since they’ve opened the SFO Bart extension, they’ve been shuffling the lines that service the station. As these changes have progressed, they’ve “closed” off the tracks that aren’t in use with these bright orange cones. The last few times I’ve been in and out of SFO, I’ve been thinking about a picture. This time, I gave it a shot.

A lot of other people have seen this same setup and shot it as well. If you click through the image to its Flickr page, you’ll see some of the shots other people have made in the comments. It’s very cool to see other people’s interpretation of the same scene and the choices each of us makes as a photographer.

This shot was made with a Nikon D700 and a Nikkor 24-70 lens. I continue to be impressed with this combination and what it can capture. I’ll be posting more observations about it soon.

The 24-70 is actually a very nice lens.

But, also try the 50mm f/1.8 ($130).

You'll be surprised.

And if you want to be REALLY surprised, try the 50mm f/2 AIS (from the 70's, probably $20).

Indeed. I'm a huge fan of prime lenses and will be getting into that soon. There's a fully manual everything non-autofocus 80's era 50/1.8 I have from my Dad's Nikon kit that I'm going to play with a bit when I get a chance. And of course, the new 50/1.4 coming soon is high on my interest list.
