The Road to Kanab

The Road to Kanab (III)

On the road from Zion National Park to Kanab, Utah a few weeks ago, Pinar and I watched an awesome moonrise as we drove east just after sunset. It was one of those moonrises that just takes your breath away to watch. Right after sunset is a perfect time to shoot a scene with the moon it. The relative brightness of sunlight reflecting off the moon is still within the range of the sky and the rest of the scene.

The location here is on US-89 just a bit south east of the intersection with Utah 9. I’m not sure how far south of the intersection, but looking at the map there is just one stretch of road that runs with the right east-west orientation to place the moon in the sky like this.

If you care to read more, two posts I recommend are Dear Speakers, a set of thoughts for public speakers that I pulled together in March, 2009 and Tilting at the Windmill, One Last Time, a call to Flickr to include important EXIF and ITPC metadata in the photographs they provide to the public.

Beautiful! I just recently tried to get a moon shot but could not figure out how to get rid of the the glowing blur.

Is there some secret? I looked at your exif data and nothing stood out.

Anyway, excellent shot.
